| ALFI Records Releases Albare's Dreamtime on May 6 ALFI Records salutes the magic of the movies on its latest release, Dreamtime (#724131549824), the new CD by label founder and master guitarist Albare. With liner notes by music journalist/author Will Friedwald, Dreamtime, will be released on May 6, 2016 just in time for Mother's Day. Label mate Joe Chindamo teamed up with Albare to handle composing, arranging and conducting duties while also playing piano. The idea was to set an audio dreamscape much like the spell cast by a movie with a great story. This musical journey recreates in sound the images people have when they remember these classic films. On Dreamtime, Albare, who is also the producer, chose his favorite Hollywood soundtracks. The evocative songs immediately remind listeners of a certain place and time. There's the 1960s New York City of "Moon River, " from Breakfast at Tiffany's, 1970s Boston "Love Story, " plus "Mission Impossible" and "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly." These songs transport a person old enough to remember seeing the films, back to the darkness of popcorn-filled movie theaters where a whole new world was at your fingertips. Yet their appeal is timeless. These songs will reach new generations watching movies on their cellphones. Three additional pieces are featured here, including the retooled "Something Will Come to Light" and "Another Story, " which were written by Chindamo and originally introduced on his 2007 album The Romantic Project. "They were included, very simply, because I love them and I feel they should be movie themes, " explains Albare. The third is "Tender You, " the one Albare composition, because, he says, "I wanted to make my own mark there against all those great themes. Perhaps also because I have never done a CD without writing the vast majority of the material and I can't completely switch off that mindset." Other tracks include "The Magnificent Seven, " "Bewitched, " "Midnight Cowboy, " "Goldfinger, " "Legends of the Fall, " "Exodus, " "The Shadow of Your Smile, " "Taxi Driver" and "Schindler's List." The musicians rounding out the CD are Philip Rex on bass, Pablo Bencid on drums as well as strings from players from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Chamber Orchestra. The label mounted a promotional campaign in support of Dreamtime beginning in late April and running through Mother's Day. Radio stations across the US are featuring promotions where listeners can win a copy of the CD and a Mother's Day prize of a $400 gift certificate to a local Massage Envy spa. Additionally, Dreamtime will be given airplay in local coffee houses and teashops from San Diego to Tampa. ALFI Records' stated mission is to create a home for artists, a label made of musicians who play and work together, where inspiration, innovation and fun collide. With this collaboration on Dreamtime, Albare, with support from Joe Chindamo, has delivered a richly layered riff on classic soundtracks and on ALFI Records' promise. ALFI, which stands for Art Lab for Innovation, is an international, multicultural record label founded by jazz guitarist Albare (aka Albert Dadon). In addition to Dreamtime, the roster also includes music from Arturo Sandoval, Axel Tosca, Darryn Farrugia, Joe Chindamo and Zoe Black, Phil Turcio and César Orozco, among others. Based in Melbourne, with branches in New York, Los Angeles and Munich, ALFI is distributed in the United States by MRI Associated Labels. write your comments about the article :: © 2016 Jazz News :: home page |
