Award winning soprano saxophonist/ composer Jane Ira Bloom announces the premiere of "Wild Lines, " her new work for jazz quartet and spoken word inspired by the poetry of Emily Dickinson. Wild Lines was made possible by Chamber Music America's 2015 New Jazz Works Program funded through the generosity of the Doris Duke Foundation. The premiere is being presented by The Magic Triangle Jazz Series on Thursday, April 28th at 8pm at Bezanson Recital Hall in the Fine Arts Center at UMASS/Amherst. Bloom will be joined by long-time bandmates Dawn Clement (piano), Mark Helias (bass), and Bobby Previte (drums) along with acclaimed film & theater actor Deborah Rush who will perform passages from Dickinson's poems. Bloom's reimagining of Dickinson was ignited when she learned that the poet was a pianist and improviser, reconfirming something that she had always intuitively felt about the jazz-like quality of her writing.

Bloom has been leading bands into new creative territory for over 35 years bringing her lyrical and provocative music to venues as diverse as the Museum of Modern Art and the National Air & Space Museum's Einstein Planetarium. Her affinity for other art forms & sciences has enriched her music and inspired works for improvisers based on Jackson Pollock, space exploration, and modern dance. She is an eight-time winner of the Jazz Journalists Award for Soprano Saxophone and recipient of the prestigious Guggenheim fellowship. She is the first musician ever commissioned by the NASA Art Program and has an asteroid named in her honor by the International Astronomical Union (asteroid 6083janeirabloom). Her 2014 CD Sixteen Sunsets was nominated for a Grammy Award and she looks forward to the 2016 release of her newest trio album "Early Americans" on the Outline label.

Quartet members Mark Helias, Bobby Previte, and Dawn Clement, composer/ bandleaders in their own right come to the music with a long history playing with Bloom. They first performed together in 2004 and have played throughout the US, recording two albums
