Joyce! Dori Caymmi! Trio Da Paz! at Birdland Feb. 23 – 27

Birdland has become a new home for Brazilian music at its best. Producer, Pat Philips, has assembled a winning and original show bringing together legends from Brazil - Vocalist/Guitarist/well-known Composer, Joyce (Moreno) with Dori Caymmi, a brilliant Composer/Guitarist/Arranger/Singer from the royal family of Brazilian music, the Caymmi's, headed by his Dad, legendary Composer Dorival Caymmi.

Add to this, Trio Da Paz, well-known in-demand Trio of Brazilians residing in our area including Guitarist Romero Lubambo, Guitarist, who has played with the likes of Diane Reeves, Michael Brecker, Grover Washing Jr. Kathleen Battle and more, Bassist Nilson Matta who performed with Joe Henderson, Don Pullen, Yo-Yo Ma and Paul Winter, and Duduka da Fonseca, drummer, who played for Antonio Carlos Jobim, John Scofield, Tom Harrell and many more top artists.

Joyce, as she is called, is a 2nd generation'Bossa Nova' Vocalist/Composer with a distinctive guitar sound . She grew up being mentored by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Luiz Eca, and Vinicius de Moraes, listening to Joao Gilberto. One of her major hits is "Essa Muhler" recorded by the great Ellis Regina. Others were 'Feminina' and "Mesterios' . Her American influences were Benny Goodman, Sinatra, Brubeck, and the MJQ which brought jazz into her musical life. She has also partnered with Brazilian elite – Marcos Valle, Edo Lobos, and Joao Donato. Joyce is another member of Brazilian music royalty and history and performs around the world at major concert halls and festivals.

Dori Caymmi, son of one of Brazil's legendary Composers, Dorival Caymmi, has become one of Brazil's most important popular music musicians, composer/arranger/vocalist with many award-winning songs to his credit such as "Saudade de Amar" which won him a Grammy. He is the real soul of Brazil, and having written, arranged, and performed with renowned musicians Antonio Carlos Jobim, Quincy Jones, Dionne Warwick, Gilberto Gil, Sarah Vaughan, Gal Costa, Toots Thielemans,
Elis Regina and more. With several Grammy's and performances at Carnegie Hall, Hollywood Bowl, TV, and Festivals, Dori has brought his modern approach to a classic sound blending Jazz, Pop, and Brazilian influences winning many accolades and awards in his brilliant career.

The combination of JOYCE, DORI, and TRIO DA PAZ is sure to make history at Birdland. It's a first !
