| Rising Jazz Talents of Manhattan School of Music Showcase at Iconic Greenwich Village Jazz Club 55 Bar 55 Bar, the landmark, prohibition-era Greenwich Village jazz club – one of the city's most beloved jazz venues and a favorite room for emerging and A-list jazz performers alike – is showcasing up-and-coming jazz vocalists and instrumentalists from Manhattan School of Music's Jazz Arts Program in Vinyl Live!, a jazz vocal residency on three Tuesday nights this winter and spring: February 23, March 29, and April 26, 2016 Vinyl Live! features songs from the '30s through the '80s in a musical nod to the past that is firmly rooted in the present. Two sets of jazz vocal combos will perform between 7pm and 9pm - each evening will be hosted by MSM's Jazz Arts Program faculty. The performances are part of a long-standing tradition of MSM faculty and musicians performing at 55 Bar including Kate McGarry, Gretchen Parlato, Theo Bleckmann, and Donny McCaslin. (It was at 55 Bar a couple of years ago where the late David Bowie first caught saxophonist McCaslin and his quartet, ultimately leading to Bowie collaborating with them on his final album, Blackstar, now topping music charts.) Vinyl Live! will also showcase the internationalism and multiculturalism that is part of MSM's fabric, with singers and musicians hailing from multiple nations and cultures across the globe, all unified by a love of jazz and sharing music. "At 55 Bar, we are thrilled to be hosting such high caliber musicians from one of the best music conservatories in the world, " says Scott Ellard, club owner. "We've seen so much talent from MSM pass through these doors over the years, and we are proud to have played an important part in the careers of many great musicians." "For audiences lucky to know about this gem of a jazz club, these three nights will be very special, " says Justin DiCioccio, Associate Dean and Chair of MSM's Jazz Arts Program. "This is a chance to hear some really great music by talented musicians whose careers are taking off." No cover, two drink minimum. As is the custom at 55 Bar, tipping the musicians is highly appreciated. 55 Bar 55 Christopher St., (Between 6th and 7th Avenues) New York, NY 10014 SCHEDULE FEB 23, 7-9pm: Kate McGarry presents Music of the '30s and '40s MAR 29, 7-9pm: Theo Bleckmann presents Music of the '50s and '60s APR 26, 7-9pm Gretchen Parlato presents Music of the '70s and '80s PERFORMERS: Jazz Arts Vocal Combos Aurora Arteaga, Courtney Cutchins, Julia Ehninger, Karly Epp, Vocalists Jake Herzog, Guitar Kengchakaj Kengkarnka, Piano Brandon Davis, Double Bass Noe Tavelli, Drums Erica Ashley Arrington Roberts, Sirintip Phasuk, Jeffrey Velez, Vocalists Jake Herzog, Guitar Jon Snell, Piano Matt Krol, Double Bass Nolan Byrd, Drums About MANHATTAN SCHOOL OF MUSIC JAZZ ARTS PROGRAM As one of the first conservatories in the U.S. to acknowledge the prime importance of jazz as an art form, Manhattan School of Music's programs for Jazz Arts majors are designed to develop skilled performers, composers, arrangers, and jazz educators in preparation for careers in jazz music.
