| The Roaring Pride of Seán Lyons Appearing at Smoke NYC tenor saxophonist Seán Lyons will be performing NEXT Wednesday & Thursday, February 10th & 11th, with a tremendous all-star quintet featuring some of the great living legends of jazz: the incredible Al Foster on drums, the spectacular Bob Cranshaw on bass, two of the top masters of the trumpet, Jon Faddis (on Wednesday), and Eddie Henderson (on Thursday), and pianist extraordinaire David Hazeltine. "Delivering his individual lines with a rich, dark tone and an absence of flamboyance, Lyons is an improviser with stories worth hearing. His sound has genuine warmth and he has a strong affinity with bop. Lyons is a tasteful and resourceful saxophonist, eminently capable of sustaining a wealth of moods." - Jazz Journal "One of the latest in the varied long line of jazz's tenor tradition is Sean Lyons who would sound right at place on an album from the classic 'Blue Note era.' He is traditional sounding without being a rehash of classic styles." - Jazz Inside NY "Lyons is a dynamic tenor player equipped with a tone that sounds as though he made a deal with the devil, and lyrical phrasing that reminds one of that musical happy place between Stan Getz and Dexter Gordon. Lyons conducts his own sonic exploratory showcasing his marvelous if not total command of his tenor. If you are looking for chinks in Lyons' armor then good luck, as he is as technically proficient and artistically gifted as they come." - Bop-N-Jazz "Lyons has been winning accolades for his big-toned tenor sound. His sidemen compliment his robust tenor on boppish fare and ballads." - Jazz Times The Roaring Pride of Lyons: Jon Faddis – trumpet (Wed.) Eddie Henderson – trumpet (Thur.)
