Included will be some world Premieres. Composers will include these prominent figures: Julie Mandel, Beata Moon, Faye-Ellen Silverman, Melanie Mitrano and Sabrina Pena Young. Scintillating, invigorating performances are expected by this very accomplished ensemble: Carol Sudhalter, flute; Markus Kaitila, piano; Shawn Lovato, bass; Sylvia Cuenca, drums; vocalist Marti Mabin and Surprise Guest Flutist! In the more than three decades since her move to New York, Sudhalter has founded the Astoria Big Band, the Astoria Jazz Band, a series of House Concerts, and several Concert Series in Astoria including the 2000 first-ever Waterfront Jazz Series. Sudhalter is committed to spreading music to residents of Western Queens who otherwise might not have the exposure. "We aim always to leave the crowd of Queens residents and others happy, enlightened and fulfilled", says Sudhalter. Sudhalter was runner-up in the 2012 Down Beat Jazz Readers' Poll, taking 9th place in the Best Jazz Flutist category. She is profiled in Wikipedia, in W. Royal Stokes' Growing Up With Jazz, and in several other books and magazines.
