Andrea Brachfeld “Lotus Blossom” CD Release Party

Flutist Andrea Brachfeld celebrates the release of her newest CD "Lotus Blossom" on Wednesday, October 28, at Zeb's Place, a performance space located at 223 West 28th Street in New York City.

Released on the New York based independent label Jazzheads, "Lotus Blossom" features Bill O'Connell on piano, Rufus Reid on bass and Winard Harper on drums. The music includes both original tunes plus classics by Herbie Mann, Billy Strayhorn and George Shearing with special guest artists Wycliffe Gordon, Chembo Corniel and Nancy Harms. The first 50 people who arrive at Zeb's Place will receive a free gift bag from Jazzheads.

In mid-September Andrea received the Hot House Jazz Award as Jazz Flutist of the Year. The ceremony, which took place at the Metropolitan Club, honors fan favorites in several categories including specific instruments and various ensembles. Hot House Jazz Magazine is the oldest jazz publication in New York and launched this tradition of honoring new and established musicians a few years ago.

While this is the first year Ms. Brachfeld has won the Hot House Jazz Award, she is no stranger to honors and awards. As a young student in 1974, she was awarded the Louis Armstrong Award for outstanding jazz student. Upon graduating from the Manhattan School of Music, she began a career that has taken her all over the world and enabled her to perform with many great musicians including Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, Machito, Hubert Laws, Paquito D'Rivera, Wallace Roney, Hilton Ruiz and many others. As an artist, she has received the "Chico O'Farrill Lifetime Achievement Award" from Latin Jazz USA, the "Pionero Award" for her contribution to Latin music and "Tribute to the Charanga Flutes" in 2012.

"Lotus Blossom" is on the Jazzheads label and can be ordered through Amazon, Jazzheads or iTunes. Zeb's Place is located at 223 West 28th Street in New York. Tickets for the October 28th CD Release Party are only $10.00; call 732-718-5818 for reservations and information. The quartet will perform two sets starting at 8:00 and will be joined by Wycliffe Gordon on brass and Chembo Corniel on congas and percussion.
