His impressive discography is posted at www.roswellrudd.com. Rudd, who likes to be known as "The Incredible Honk, " has always displayed his unique musicianship within a career that stretches back to the 1950s. Rudd has received awards and recognition including a Guggenheim fellowship, and top honors in Downbeat critics' poll and from the Jazz Journalists Association. Rudd's playing is rooted firmly in the jazz tradition, grounded in his knowledge of trombone giants such as Jack Teagarden, Kid Ory and J.J. Johnson. But Rudd has always looked into the future, working with innovative icons including Carla Bley, Gil Evans, Steve Lacy, Archie Shepp and Cecil Taylor. A teacher of jazz history both in the classroom and on the bandstand, Rudd delivers a modern incarnation of the New Orleans style while not being afraid to color outside the lines. The spectrum of musicians appearing at Le Poisson Rouge Nov. 15 provides Rudd with an opportunity to express his versatility and broad influence.
