Part I: INTERVENTIONS (Cliff Korman)
A five movement work which features individual and collective improvisation and draws from jazz and contemporary classical idioms. Born as part of MSM's Jazz Arts Advancement DMA Program, this is its New York City premiere.

Part II: The Music of Edu Lobo (arrangements Gilson Peranzzetta.)
In 2011, pianist/arranger Gilson Peranzzetta arranged and performed as soloist with the Metropole Orchestra of Amsterdam works of Edu Lobo, one of Brazil's most important composers. The resultant CD "Edu Lobo and the Metropole Orkest" (Biscoito Fino, 2012) was nominated for a Grammy and won two Brazilian music awards, for Best Arranger and Best Recording.
In the second half of tonight's concert, the MSM Jazz Symphonic Orchestra presents four songs from this CD, and Gilson's composition "Dois na Rede", an arrangement written for the Jazz Sinfônica of São Paulo. In each arrangement we hear his ability to maintain the "groove" and swing of a myriad of Brazilian rhythms and styles, while elaborating them with sophisticated melodic lines, harmonies and orchestrations.
Saxophonist Dave Liebman is guest soloist.

SAVASSI FESTIVAL
With a focus on jazz and instrumental music, the Savassi Festival has developed from its beginnings as a street festival in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, into a matrix of musical activities that includes recordings, artistic residencies and collaborations, exhibitions, competitions, and a host of live concerts, representing the full spectrum of jazz, from jazz-symphonic works to electronic music+jazz performances.
In the last 13 years it has promoted 605 concerts, 61 workshops, and 150 DJ performances to a total audience of 270, 000 people. As part of its mission of social action, access to the main event – the annual open-air street festival in Belo Horizonte – is gained by donating 1kg of non-perishable food, fully destined to help at risk and underserved populations of the city.
Inaugurated in 2013, Savassi Festival New York is focused entirely on Brazilian instrumental music, offering stages and projects that serve as meeting grounds in which Brazilians and non-Brazilian musicians join forces to experiment, explore, and perform.
