Very Good Years: The Intimate Sinatra is an insightful journey into the musical career of Frank Sinatra on his centennial year (December 12, 1915.) The show is a musical tribute focusing on songs from 1939 to 1968. It is a recording retrospective which formed the musical compass to Sinatra's professional life and his legacy. Along with several signature songs, are lesser known tunes including two co-written by Sinatra. Songs he famously recorded with Nelson Riddle, his greatest collaborator, will also be highlighted. Several arrangements are given a decidedly Latin twist as well as a tip of the hat to two of his greatest influences, Tommy Dorsey and Billie Holiday. There will also be songs from his favorite album, "Frank Sinatra Sings for Only The Lonely" as well as tunes from collaborations with Antonio Carlos Jobim and Duke Ellington. This retrospective will celebrate the man considered the greatest pop vocalist of the twentieth century, even though Sinatra always said, "I'm just a saloon singer." write your comments about the article :: © 2015 Jazz News :: home page |
