| Guitarist Albare Returns to Boston area Wednesday, June 3, 2015 Moroccan-born guitarist Albert Dadon, known as Albare returns to the Boston area with a fine new CD titled Only Human. He will perform with an all-star band at the Regattabar on Wednesday, June 3 at 7:30 pm. The Regattabar is located in the beautiful Charles Hotel, One Bennett Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Only Human is the debut release on ALBARE's brand NU label, Alfi Records, run by former GRP Records A&R guru: Carl Griffin. With this release, Albare has reinvented himself with a completely fresh approach to composition and arrangements. The new disc features two outstanding Cuban musicians: Axel Tosca Laugart on piano and Yunior Terry Cuba on bass along with the fabulous Venezuelan drummer Pablo Bencid. The fusion between Eastern/Cuban/Western styles gives birth to something delightfully Nu. One of the hottest percussionists today, Luisito Quintero of Venezuela, is the latest addition to the lineup. And, Albare will have this same super band with him at The Regattabar on June 3. ALBARE is the nom de guerre of Albert Dadon, a virtuoso jazz guitarist with a strong melodic sense and a wealth of global influences. Born in Morocco and raised in Israel and France, Albare first worked as a musician in France, before immigrating to Australia in his 20s. He is not only well known as a jazz musician but has maintained a highly successful career as one of Australia's most prominent musician entrepreneurs. He is undoubtedly a major force in Australian jazz, having directed the Melbourne International Jazz Festival for many years and as the founder and chairman of the Australian Jazz Awards. In 2008 he was made a member of the Order of Australia for his service to the Arts and Business. He currently lives in Melbourne, Australia. Endorsed by Gibson Guitars for over 20 years, Albare has recorded 9 albums during that time. In 2012 Albare recorded Long Way, it was his first album produced for the prestigious German jazz label Enja Records. Recorded in New York, the album featured triple Grammy winner drummer Antonio Sanchez (of The Pat Metheny Group), saxophonist George Garzone (from the Joe Lovano Nonet), pianist Leo Genovese (Esperanza Spalding), prolific harmonica player Hendrik Meurkens and Albare's long time musical collaborator, bassist Evri (Evripedis Evripidou). Long Way maintained its place on the national Jazz Week Chart for over eighteen weeks! In early 2013 The Road Ahead was recorded with a new line up. This ensemble has proved to be a great setting for Albare's melodic playing while continuing the international cosmopolitan theme. The band features the Italian Australian-based pianist Phil Turcio, Cuban bassist Yunior Terry and Venezuelan drummer Pablo Bencid. They combine the fresh excitement of Long Way with a more sophisticated and interactive feeling within the band. This second recording for Enja Records remained in the US National Week Charts for 12 weeks. write your comments about the article :: © 2015 Jazz News :: home page |
