| The Artificial Harbor "Self Titled" (Self Released) "Neohippies" as they were called by the German major newspaper FAZ points towards it, but does not exactly reflect how The Artificial Harbor see themselves: Their recently released debut EP presents adrift indie rock and folk elements, but has seen a transition of the band's jaunty pagan mountain soul, conditioned by the Tyrolean origin, towards the urban influences of Vienna. The Artificial Harbor isn't afraid of grand gestures - it's just the right amount of pathos within their addictive pop songs that sets fire to their live audiences. Catchy melodies and melancholy- soaked vocals meet weirdly fragile artistic experiments - Nevertheless a gentle appearing sound, the five musicians like to experiment without needing to think about compromises. "We like to combine distorted mandolins and dark beats with an ethnic pump organ that has an incredibly deep synthesizer feel to it", says Julian Angerer singer of the five-piece band. The band is DIY in its good sense, when it comes to releasing records, play concerts and sort out artwork: the quintet relies on itself and their deep association. All band members were born and raised in Brixen in South-Tyrol but most of them moved to Vienna in the meantime. Over the last years The Artificial Harbor played from living room sessions to gigs at big festivals like Hamburg's Reeperbahnfestival, Vienna's Donauinselfest and Sicily's splendid Ypsigrock-Festival. The band is also the positive example of Upload, supporting Tyrolean pop music throughout boundaries.
