Art of Kansas City Swing International Festival

The Art of Kansas City Swing: An International Jazz Education Festival" will be held June 18-20, 2015 and will demonstrate the who, what and why of the origins of what made Kansas City SWING so unique and popular globally.

"We are offering a huge discount to educators, students and anyone interested in this unique opportunity to learn of the music that left Kansas City and reached across the world. It is important that the world know the architects and manner in which Kansas City Swing got its distinctive style and sound" said Anita J. Dixon, Executive Director.

The price of the festival for three days is $75 per person, a discount of $100 and will be available until May 15, 2015. The Art of Kansas City Swing will feature Dr. Jamey Aebersold, Dr. Larry Ridley and Harold O'Neal as main workshop presenters along with Henrik Iversen, Chairman of the Ben Webster Foundation in Denmark. This unique festival brings several of the greatest names in jazz history for workshops and judging of the international "Battle of the Bands" competition for Swing bands:

Dr. Larry Ridley
Dr. Larry Ridley's pedigree in jazz is one of the unquestioned facts in American history. His gigs as a bassist over the last fifty or more years is a 'who's who", of American classical. His fame as the consummate jazz musician and lover of the genre has earned him a seat at every major jazz venue and band across the world.

Jamey Aebersold
Jamey is an internationally-known saxophonist and authority on jazz education and improvisation, and has developed a series of Play-A-Longs (book and cd sets (now numbering almost 130 volumes) as well as various other supplemental aids for the development of improvisational skills. Aebersold's name is synonymous with the expansion of jazz education internationally

Harold O'Neal
One of jazz's young lions, Harold O'Neal has become a voice of innovation in a genre highly prized for its origins. O'Neal has toured extensively throughout the world and has performed and recorded with artists such as:Greg Osby, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Roy Hargrove Bobby Watson, Carmen Lundy, Nicholas Payton, Wynton Marsalis, and Jerry Wonda. Last June, he had the honor of playing for Amnesty International and Bono's Electric Burma concert, celebrating Burmese activist Aung Sang SuKyi, and U2.
