| Winners Announced For 2014 Made In New York Jazz Competition The winners of the second-annual 2014 have been announced. True to the competition's international claim, the winners of the 2014 competition came from four continents. Third place awarded to the Jan Prax Quartet from Germany, second awarded to Thana Alexa from the United States, and judges awarded the top prize to the Eden Rabin International Project - a collective of musicians from four countries that registered from Israel. As a perfect example of what the Made In New York Jazz Competition is trying to accomplish, the Eden Rabin International Project worked together to record the song they submitted without ever being in the same room together. Indeed, the quartet never recorded in the same country as each other either. The Eden Rabin International Project came from all over the globe; Israel, USA, Chile and Germany and showed that communities of jazz musicians and music lovers can thrive online with the support of an organizing factor like the Made In New York Jazz Competition. The second-place winner of the 2014 Made In New York Jazz Competition is a vocalist that is made in the USA. Jazz vocalist Thana Alexa submitted an exciting, newly arranged performance of "Take Five." Alexa's performance displayed her rhythm and unique vocal style that is described as experimental. Alexa treats her voice like an instrument in the middle of the performance submitted to the Made In, while she sings a wordless melody as an instrumental solo. Third place went to a German group, the Jan Prax Quartet. Prax, a 22-year-old saxophonist said he dreamed of the opportunity to perform at the Made In New York Jazz Gala when he sent the group's submission. Now that the Jan Prax Quartet has been awarded third place in the Made In New York Jazz Competition, that dream is a reality, as the quartet will be invited to perform at the culminating gala event on June 27, 2015 at the Tribeca Performing Arts Complex. The competition was decided by a combination of voting done by jazz fans who registered with the Made In New York Jazz Competition, as well as by a set of committee members and judges. The judges include legendary jazz musicians Randy Brecker, Lenny White, who returned for a second year associated with the competition, as well as Joe Lovano, who has recently recorded with newly born jazz duo Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga. The prizes for the 2014 Made In New York Jazz Competition were nothing short of spectacular. Third place received a promoting contract worth $1, 000. Second place received a state of the art KAWAI MP 11 stage piano, the finest piano experience in a professional stage piano and the first prize received a cash award, as well as airfare sponsored by proud partner KAWAI USA to the June 27 Gala event at Tribeca. Kawai has been a big part of the Made In New York Jazz Competition both years of the contest's existence. According to festival organizer Mikhael Brovkin, "This is an amazing partnership between a well-established, worldwide brand and a young competition. It is a great honor to be in the company of OneRepublic, MUSE, Steven Curtis Chapman, Scars on 45, Joe Bongiorno and other great artists supported by this brand."
