Universal To release Cream Vinyl Box Set

According to a recent press release, Universal Music Enterprise is set to release a reissue vinyl box set of British rock supergroup Cream's entire music discography. The vinyl box set, which features four studio and two live albums, will be released on November 24th, 2014.

The set will be contained in a rigid slipcase box, and each LP will feature the original artwork and will be pressed in 180-gram heavyweight audiophile vinyl. The set is coming out the day before Thanksgiving.

Formed in 1966 with guitarist/singer Eric Clapton, drummer Ginger Baker, and bassist/singer Jack Bruce, the band combined Clapton's bluesy guitar with Baker's jazz-influenced drums, and Bruce's operatic voice. The legendary rock band lasted only two and a half years, but during that time, they changed the music scene and set new standards for rock n roll, being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

Cream's debut album Fresh Cream, was recorded and released in 1966. The album featured blues covers and Cream original songs. Cream then released follow-up album Disraeli Gears, which featured classic Cream songs like "Strange Brew" and "Sunshine of Your Love."

In 1968, Cream released Wheels of Fire. The album featured Clapton's "Crossroads", which is considered one of the greatest guitar-solos of all time.

In mid-1968, the band decided to go their separate ways, and released farewell album Goodbye, released in 1969. Their farewell album contained three live recordings and three new studio songs, including "Badge, " which was written by Eric Clapton and George Harrison. Harrison played rhythm guitar on the track on under the pseudonym "L'Angelo Misterioso.

Cream reunited in October 2005 for a series of concerts at the Royal Albert Hall in London, which was so successful they brought the tour to the US at Madison Square Garden. Since then, Cream members have stated that they will not be reuniting again.

Cream's influence on rock and roll has been huge, receiving a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006. Their influence has spread over many decades to tons of artists, including mega-bands like Led Zeppelin and The Allman Brothers. Cream also brought US attention to guitarist Eric Clapton, who obviously went on to have a hugely successful career as a solo artist and as a guitarist for numerous bands including Derek and the Dominos.

The reissue vinyl box set includes all four studio albums, Fresh Cream, Disraeli Gears, Wheels of Fire, and Goodbye, and two live performance albums from 1970 and 1972.
