| Craig Yaremko Upcoming Live Appearances The Craig Yaremko Organ Trio continues its exploration of the sonic possibilities of jazz organ group as acclaimed saxophonist and flutist Craig Yaremko begins a monthly residency this September at midtown's Tomi Jazz. The CYO3 will welcome special guests (including trombonist and vocalist Pete McGuinness this October)and offer dynamic and always swinging takes on the jazz songbook. First up is "Strollin' in Soulville: The CYO3 Plays Horace Silver", as the trio will present two nights of both classic and rarely played compositions of the late great Horace Silver. "Yaremko looks at the organ trio from multiple angles, showing depth of artistry and character all the while...Yaremko's directness...is refreshing, given the cunning and oblique preferences of so many other saxophonists operating today...here's to hoping that this won't be a one-off organ group outing" -All About Jazz "Sax players who can realize each of the distinctly gorgeous tones within the soprano, alto and tenor are tough to find. One horn, usually the soprano, suffers. If you add to this a weighty sound on flute and alto flute Craig Yaremko may be the only player left standing." -New York City Jazz Record "The Craig Yaremko Organ Trio prepares listeners for a spirited ride from the opening track...and when Yaremko's alto sax locks in with King's organ line...it's pure magic." -Jazziz Craig Yaremko Strollin' in Soulville: CYO3 Plays Horace Silver Craig Yaremko Organ Trio Thursday, August 28th 8:30-11:30pm Maxfield's on Main 713 Main Street Boonton, NJ 973-588-4450 Craig Yaremko-saxophones and flutes Matt King-Organ Jonathon Peretz-drums Craig Yaremko Strollin' in Soulville: CYO3 Plays Horace Silver Craig Yaremko Organ Trio Wednesday, September 10th 8-11pm Tomi Jazz 239 East 53rd Street, Lower Level (between 2nd and 3rd Avenues) New York, NY Craig Yaremko-saxophones and flutes Matt King-Organ Jonathon Peretz-drums Other Performances: Craig Yaremko CYO3x2 Craig Yaremko Organ Trio: Double Time/Double Trouble Craig Yaremko-saxophones Matt King-organ Jonathon Peretz-drums with guests Vic Juris-guitar Nathan Eklund-trumpet Alan Ferber-trombone Sunday, July 27th 7 and 9pm Trumpet Jazz Club 6 Depot Square Montclair, NJ 973-744-2600 www.trumpetsjazz.com $10 cover Craig Yaremko Craig Yaremko Organ Trio with guest Pete McGuinness Wednesday, October 1 8-11pm Tomi Jazz 239 East 53rd Street, Lower Level (between 2nd and 3rd Avenues) New York, NY 646-497-1254 Home - Tomi Jazz - Food, Drink and Music > Craig Yaremko-saxophones and flutes > Matt King-Organ > Jonathon Peretz-drums > Special Guest Pete McGuinness-trombone and vocals > No cover > www.craigyaremko.com New CD Craig Yaremko Organ Trio "CYO3" (OA2 Records 22105) Craig Yaremko: soprano, alto and tenor saxophones, flute and alto flute Matt King: organ Jonathon Peretz: drums Vic Juris: guitar (tracks 3 and 5) The New York-based saxophonist Craig Yaremko, along with organist Matt King, drummer Jonathon Peretz, and special guest guitarist Vic Juris, push the limits of the tradition while displaying a powerful group chemistry. The band swings hard on originals by both Yaremko and King, and puts fresh spins on jazz classics by Monk, Strayhorn, Hubbard and Waller. CYO3 is Yaremko's debut on OA2 Records and his forth as a leader, following his recording "Sync, " which was a Top Ten pick from New York's Hot House Magazine for release. "'Sync' reveals an artist who…already has a powerful musical personality. Yaremko's originals, which touch on the jazz tradition while also looking forward, are rife with musical adventures. Likewise, his covers of such songs as Lennon-McCartney's "Michelle" offer fresh, open-minded approaches..."-Zan Stewart, Newark Star-Ledger "It is hard to imagine how many ultra-talented musicians lie in the weeds, with no big-budget record contract or nationwide touring schedule that allows them to reach the masses. Discovering one is like finding a pearl in your oyster — and the pearl on Sync is the multiple reed-playing Craig Yaremko…Craig Yaremko is a jack of many instruments, and here he is the master of all — and a darn good writer and arranger to boot." -John Cizik, Jazz Improv NY (now Jazz Inside) write your comments about the article :: © 2014 Jazz News :: home page |
