An Evening with Natalie Cole
Thursday, August 21, 2014 @ 8pm

An end of summer soirée with the daughter of one of America's most beloved entertainers, multiple Grammy winner Natalie Cole has built a phenomenally successful career spanning 35 years. She just released her first Spanish-language album, "Natalie Cole en Español, " which is a salute to the pioneering, bilingual legacy of her legendary father, and spotlights the most romantic songs of the great Spanish-language composers. With this effort, she hopes to reintroduce a new generation of fans to many of Latin Music's most romantic standards — with both new interpretations of Spanish-language classics previously recorded by Nat King Cole, and Natalie's own personal selections of songs that have touched her heart and make this album truly her own. Join us for an exceptional evening and a timeless performance by one of the finest R&B/pop vocalists of our time.

The legendary NRBQ — founder & driving force Terry Adams on keyboards & vocals, Scott Ligon on guitar & vocals, Casey McDonough on bass & vocals, and Conrad Choucroun on drums — released their latest studio album, the critically-acclaimed Brass Tacks, on June 17. "Brass Tacks is as accomplished and as spirited an album as the band has ever made, " says the Los Angeles Daily News." "Brass Tacks contains the fun, zest, humor and flat-out rock that has defined the band since their birth decades ago, " says Rolling Stone in their online review, and, adds Magnet, "…hats off to the NRBQ dynasty."
The one and only Q hit the road this summer ("…the band is as tight and passionate as it has ever been. It's still making music that is as impossibly infectious as ever, " said the Cleveland Scene of a recent show). If you missed them, here's another chance to see NRBQ live. What to expect besides the unexpected? "Ability to groove like no other band on the planet." —popmatters. "NRBQ is still liable to play anything. Roaring rockabilly, transcendent pop-rock, roadhouse blues, avant jazz – you name it." —Minneapolis Tribune. The Cab Calloway Orchestra
Directed by C. Calloway Brooks
Friday, October 10, 2014 @7:30pm

Smooth shiny instruments all in a row, red-hot lyrics, silky smooth ensemble work, spicy brass harmonies, a joyful audience bouncing and swaying to irresistible rhythms, and the sound of "Hi De Ho!" filling theaters on cue. These have been the classic trademarks of concerts by The Cab Calloway Orchestra ever since the 1920s. They are the ingredients that made the orchestra a hit when it played the Palais Royale in downtown South Bend in 1939, and it's the same mix that gives the group its energy and popularity today. These days, under the baton of Cab's grandson, Calloway Brooks, the Orchestra delivers the same sizzling jazz sound and snazzy stage style, producing the jump, blues, and boogie sounds of "swing that is king and jive that's alive." The band, some of whose amazing musicians have played with the group for decades, uses original vintage orchestrations as a point of departure, creating an authentic brand of hot Cotton Club-style music and hijinks!

Noam Pikelny & Stuart Duncan
Wed, 10/15/2014 - 8:00pm

Two of today's most exciting musicians in roots music share the stage!
Noam Pikelny has been building a reputation as one of the most talented and virtuosic young banjo players alive since his 2004 solo debut In The Maze on Compass Records. He is a founding member of Punch Brothers, the string ensemble led by Chris Thile, which The Boston Globe calls "a virtuosic revelation" and The New Yorker describes as "wide-ranging and restlessly imaginative." Pikelny was also the winner of the inaugural Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass and praised by Martin as "a player of unlimited range and astonishing precision."
Multi-instrumentalist Stuart Duncan has built upon his bluegrass roots to become an artist that defies categorization and surpasses the limits of any specific genre. The consummate sideman, Stuart has lent his particular taste and tone to countless artists and projects. Whether trading dizzying instrumental licks with the likes of Béla Fleck and Jerry Douglas, or adding complimentary fills for vocalists Alan Jackson and Barbara Streisand, Stuart has found a professional "home" both in the studio and on tour. From Robert Plant to Panic at the Disco, Stuart's playing and influence can be heard among many of today's top hit-makers.
