| Hugh Laurie, Katie Melua grace stage at İstanbul jazz fest "House" star Hugh Laurie and Georgian-British singer-songwriter Katie Melua will each perform for the first time in İstanbul this week as part of the İstanbul Jazz Festival, appearing on the stage of the Cemil Topuzlu Open-Air Theater on successive days. Laurie, who in addition to being an actor is also a singer, director, author and comedian, will take to the stage on Wednesday with his group The Copper Bottom Band to perform his first-ever live gig in Turkey, the İstanbul Foundation for Culture and Art (İKSV) announced in a press release on Tuesday. Following his debut album, "Let Them Talk, " in 2011, the multi-talented artist released his second album "Didn't It Rain" in 2013, topping the American blues charts. The İstanbul audience will enjoy not only Laurie's music but also his jokes and audience-friendly manner during his concert at the festival. Following Laurie, Melua will jazz up her music lovers the night after his concert, on Thursday. Two days before her performance, the chart-topping singer, who is known for her hits such as "The Closest Thing to Crazy" and "Nine Million Bicycles, " met with her fans in the D&R bookstore at the City's Nişantaşı shopping center on Tuesday. With her repertoire which includes songs from her first album "Call off the Search" and her sixth one, "Ketevan, " the singer will touch the souls of music lovers with her soft voice. The İstanbul Jazz Festival marks its 21st edition from July 1 to 16, featuring a total of 28 concerts offered in 13 different venues across the city. Among the names the 2014 festival have featured are Brad Mehldau and Mark Guiliana, who presented their debut recording "Mehliana" on Tuesday at the Haliç Congress Center. Another Tuesday performance at the Haliç Congress Center came from multiple Grammy-winning American pianist-composer Chick Corea and fellow American jazz composer Stanley Clarke, who shared the stage for a duet performance. Corea's last appearance at the festival was in 2010. The duo played as part of Corea's ongoing world tour.
