| 4/29: Berklee Global Jazz Summit The Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI) presents its fourth annual Berklee Global Jazz Summit: Global Report, on Tuesday, April 29. The summit will feature BGJI artistic director and UNESCO Artist for Peace Danilo Perez and faculty members including master saxophonist George Garzone and world renowned bassist John Patitucci, along with acclaimed percussionist Roman Diaz. Together, they will celebrate BGJI's humanitarian mission: music outreach on a global scale. The performances will present music from recent BGJI trips to Panama, the Dominican Republic, Chile, and Valencia, Spain, featuring the same ensembles that traveled to each country. The ensembles, with students from Israel, South Africa, Korea, Japan, Brazil and the U.S., will perform original music including a piece from Danilo Perez's latest release, Panama 500. BGJI managing director MarcoPignataro and drummer/percussionist Jorge Perez-Albelawill also perform. The concert takes place at Berklee Performance Center (BPC), 136 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston. The Berklee Global Jazz Summit is also a celebration of International Jazz Day (April 30), a UNESCO-designated day of recognition for jazz as a vehicle for peace, unity, and dialogue between people. The Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI) is a performance program designed to foster creativity and musicianship through various musical disciplines, with pianist and composer Pérez as its artistic director. The BGJI provides a comprehensive contemporary music environment in which students are given opportunities to explore their creativity to the highest-level possible, advance the power of music as a tool for the betterment of society, and connect musical creative thinking with the natural environment.
