Lee Whitmore Named Vice President for Education Outreach and Social Entrepreneurship at Berklee College of Music

Berklee College of Music announces that Lee Whitmore has been named vice president for education outreach and social entrepreneurship. Whitmore, who assumes his new role today, will preside over the Berklee City Music program in Boston and 46 network sites across the country, working closely with Curtis Warner, associate vice president for education outreach/executive director for City Music, and Krystal Banfield, dean for City Music. Whitmore has led or served as a senior contributor to teams committed to expanding the role of music, education, and technology to positively affect the lives of children and adults. In his most recent position at Avid Technology, where he served as a member of the senior marketing leadership team, he was instrumental in the application of audio and video music in elementary, secondary, and post-secondary schools worldwide. Prior to that, he served as founder and general manager of Korg's SoundTree division, and as education vice president of Cablevision's Power to Learn initiative.

Whitmore holds a B.S. in music education and M.M. in education from West Chester University, and an Ed.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University, in New York City.

Berklee City Music is a nonprofit education program that provides contemporary music education, mentoring, and scholarship opportunities to underserved teens at no or low cost. Founded in 1991, the program has benefited 23, 000 students and has awarded more than 1, 500 scholarships for summer and full-time undergraduate studies.
