| Spring 2014 Season Of Jazz In The Park  The People United for Armstrong Park (PUfAP) is thrilled to present the first of eight shows-all free-that make up the 2014 spring season of Jazz in the Park. The pairing of two the music powerhouses, Glen David Andrews and Fifth Ward Weebie, is complemented by a wealth of entertainment and family fun designed to highlight Armstrong Park itself, while celebrating the historic Faubourg Treme and the great culture of New Orleans. This season, Jazz in the Park is proud to announce the addition of a 2nd stage with new youth music, thanks to a collaborative effort lead by Positive Vibrations Foundation. Titled Congo Kids, the concert series' new youth initiative will provide New Orleans children with cultural, educational, musical training and employment opportunities."The Congo Kids Stage at Jazz In The Park allows us to bring positive engagement opportunities to all New Orleans families and children, especially those in the Treme and other nearby neighborhoods, " said Ben Faulks, Co-Founder and Director of Positive Vibrations Foundation. Positive Vibrations Foundation is a non-profit whose mission is to create and encourage community through development and preservation of arts, music, culture and heritage. People United for Armstrong Park are thrilled about the addition of Congo Kids to Jazz in the Park. "This is chance for the youth to get involved in the musical traditions that come out of Congo Square. We hope that the kids in our program will show us what the future of New Orleans sounds like, " says Co-Founder Ben Harwood. "Jazz in the Park now has 2 stages where you can hear good music. We also have a weekly 2nd line parade and an intermission show which could be anything from dance troupes to Michael Jackson Impersonators, this only happens in the NO Baby!" says founder Emanuel Lain Jr. The first event of the series takes place on April 17, 2014, with a start time of 4PM, when The New Sound Brass Band and The Sudan Social Aid and Pleasure Club Second Line Parade to start the festivities. The Marketplace at Armstrong Park, produced in cooperation with The Institute of Community Development ( www.icdnola.org ), also opens to the public at 3PM. Fresh and prepared foods, as well as locally made crafts, are available for purchase, with the additional convenience of a grocery valet so patrons may shop and enjoy the music at the same time. The gastronomic delights of some of New Orleans' best food trucks round out the menu options. Fifth Ward Weebie brings his traditional style bounce music to the Jazz in the Park stage at 5PM, and the soulful Glen David Andrews headlines at 6:30PM. During the intermission, the Landry-Walker Marching Band will parade through Armstrong Park. The People United for Armstrong Park's after party takes place after the show, with a second line featuring New Sound Brass Band and The Sudan Social Aid and Pleasure Club leading out of Armstrong Park to the Golden Feather Restaurant, at 704 Rampart Street. The after party at the Golden Feather runs the duration of the concert series, from 4/17 to 6/05. The after party is free but attendees are encouraged to buy drinks, all funds generated goes towards funding the Jazz in the Park concert series, specifically for the music. A kids' craft and play area is available to offer enrichment activities and fun while families attend the Jazz in the Park shows. There is a spacewalk, and a face-painting artist also will be on hand. Primary sponsorship for the series is provided by The NOLA Brewing Company.
