| Belles Sing the Blues with Belle Canto at GPAC on Feb 16 Belle Canto, an all women's vocal ensemble that performs everything from Bach to Broadway, turns its attention to another Big B in a program "Belles Sing the Blues" performed at 8 pm on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at The Glenridge Performing Arts Center on Palmer Ranch, 7333 Scotland Way, Sarasota. Think Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, and what comes to mind is some of the best in Jazz and Blues. You'll swing to the beat in this concert of familiar favorites like Satin Doll, Georgia on My Mind, Skylark, How High the Moon and more. Belle Canto joins with professional jazz musicians, Johnny Moore -drums, Dominic Mancini – bass, and Tommy Goodman – piano, along with Jonathan Spivey to present cool, red hot blues! Do not miss out on this extraordinary musical experience! Belle Canto, is an intimate ensemble under the direction of Elizabeth Goldstein, which prides instelf on presenting music of the highest caliber sung by singers of outstanding quality. Elizabeth "Liz" Goldstein graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. For the past seventeen years, she has been the Director of Music and Organist for the First United Methodist Church in Sarasota. She founded the ensemble only four seasons ago and they quickly earned the praise of critics. June LeBell, writing for The Observer said "…their blend, ability to get words across and purity of sound makes them one of the finest choral groups I've heard in years."
