First Annual Vibraphone Congress In Asbury Park, NJ

Vibraphonist Tony Miceli has been making a big splash with his recent international gigs, recordings, master classes, workshops, and internet vibes website, and on-line classes with many of the great contemporary vibes players. A dedicated musician, he seems intent on bringing to the vibraphone the kind of visibility and instructional opportunities that are more common for the saxophone, guitar, and other of the more "popular" instruments. With the initiation of the 2014 Annual Vibraphone Congress, Miceli takes these efforts to a new level: a summit meeting of the greatest vibraphone players with all those who love or play this instrument.

Says Miceli, "We are hoping to establish a new organization to help promote the vibraphone and improvisation on all keyboard percussion instruments. More players equal more opportunities for all of us. We hope to perform, exchange information and opinions, and consider whether we should have a board of directors, hold yearly meetings? We invite all to come join the pros who have already committed to participating."

Among the pros, each of whom is a consummate musician in his own right, are Gary Burton, Joe Locke, Stefon Harris, Warren Wolf, Christos Rafalides, Dave Friedman, Dave Samuels, Behn Gillece, Ed Smith, Randy Sutin, and Steve Shapiro. This is an A-list of the great current vibraophonists.

The Congress will be held on Saturday and Sunday, January 4 and 5, 2014 in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The Official Hotel is The Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel.

Miceli notes that "This is not a company sponsored organization. It's an organization of professionals. So all instruments and all brands are welcome. You can bring your instrument if you want.
