| The Music of Paul Simon to be Celebrated with All-Star Carnegie Hall Concert Michael Dorf announced that the music of Paul Simon will be celebrated with a special benefit concert at Carnegie Hall on March 31. The lineup will be revealed soon. The Music of Paul Simon event will be the 10th annual tribute concert held at Carnegie Hall, with 100% of the net proceeds given to music education organizations for underprivileged youth. Michael Dorf has announced that over 1 million net dollars has been raised. Dorf's Carnegie Hall tribute concerts have become one of the must-see events of the NYC live music season. Previous sold-out concerts have honored the music of Prince, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, R.E.M., Neil Young, The Who and The Rolling Stones. One of the highlights of last year's tribute to Prince was a rare NYC appearance by D'Angelo, backed by house band The Roots. Bruce Springsteen and R.E.M. have also performed for unannounced encores. The annual fundraiser has remained focused on important education programs provided by organizations such as Young Audiences New York, Little Kids Rock, Church Street School of Music, Mr. Holland's Opus, American Symphony Orchestra's Outreach program and Grammy in the Schools. "This is a special year given the milestones of it being the 10th annual and achieving $1m in donations is especially heartwarming. It would be an impossible task if the artists didn't all step up and participate. Luckily we work hard to make the show as smooth a production as possible and make the rehearsal fun and filled with food and wine." Dorf is uniquely suited to create the impressive and eclectic rosters he assembles each year as a founder of two seminal NYC music venues: the Knitting Factory, which he started in 1987 and sold in 2002, and City Winery, which he founded in 2008 and recently opened a Chicago location. He has over 27 years of live programming for stages across the globe and on-going talent buying at City Winery. write your comments about the article :: © 2013 Jazz News :: home page |
