| The National Jazz Museum in Harlem October 28 - November 1 Tuesday, October 29 Jazz For Curious Listeners The Evolution of the Jazz Mandolin with Tim Porter "Fast Forward to Today's Foremost" Blues, Bebop and Beyond 7:00 – 8:30pm Location: The National Jazz Museum in Harlem $10 Suggested Donation The last session in our series on the jazz mandolin will focus on the further development of mandolin jazz through Swing, Bebop, and the present with discussion on the contemporary mandolinists such as Andy Statman, Mike Marshall, David Grisman, Barry Mitterhoff, Peter Ostrousko, Sam Bush, Don Stirenberg, Jamie Masefield (of the Jazz Mandolin Project), and Chris Thile. The session will feature live performances of tunes appropriate to the period with Tim Porter on mandolin, Joe Selly on guitar and Santi Debriano on bass. Thursday, October 31 Harlem Speaks: David Amram, multi-instrumentalist, composer 6:30-8:30 Location: The National Jazz Museum in Harlem We are honored to have as our guest multi-instrumentalist, composer and author David Amram, rightfully hailed as a Renaissance man of American Music for our Harlem Speaks interview series. Amram plays more than 35 instruments and played a significant role in introducing the French horn to jazz more than sixty years ago while a member in the bands of many of the 1950s jazz legends such as Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Charles Mingus and Oscar Pettiford. These programs are supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council, and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State. The Savory Concerts are supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Art Works. The National Jazz Museum in Harlem's Visitors Center is open to the public and features our extensive library of all sorts of media, plus brand new collections of photographs, and exhibits.
