| Lyle Lovett & John Hiatt at Mount Baker Theatre Nov. 24 Singer, composer, and actor Lyle Lovett has broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14 albums. Since his self-titled debut in 1986, Lovett has evolved into one of music's most vibrant and iconic performers. His body of work, rich and eclectic, is one of the most beloved of any living artist working today. Among his many accolades are four Grammy Awards, the Americana Music Association's inaugural Trailblazer Award, and the title of Texas State Musician. Coupled with his gift for storytelling, the Texas-based musician fuses elements of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel, and blues in a convention-defying manner that breaks down barriers. Over thirty-five years after the release of his debut album, John Hiatt remains one of America's most respected and influential singer-songwriters. His songs have been covered by artists as diverse as Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy, Emmylou Harris, Iggy Pop, Rosanne Cash (the #1 country hit "The Way We Make A Broken Heart"), the Jeff Healey Band ("Angel Eyes"), and Willie Nelson. In the past few years alone, Hiatt has been honored with his own star on Nashville's Walk of Fame, received the Americana Music Association's Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting, was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and was named Best Male Vocalist in Rolling Stone's annual Critics Poll, all thanks to his patented rootsy rock/country/blues fusion. These two titans of Americana come together on MBT's stage for the first time since 2007's sold-out Songwriters Tour gala – this is an evening you definitely don't want to miss. Series Sponsor for Lyle Lovett & John Hiatt is Yorky's Market. 2013-2014 Season Sponsor is Saturna Capital. The Mount Baker Theatre receives support from a Tourism Facilities Grant from the City of Bellingham. write your comments about the article :: © 2013 Jazz News :: home page |
