| Calvin Keys "Electric Keys" - 9 New Compositions of Jazz/Funk/Blues Innovative Jazz guitarist Calvin Keys is a legend among soul-jazz fans for his appearances as a session musician and his small catalog of releases under his own name. Known for his lean, muscular single-string solo style, Keys was born in 1943 in Omaha, Nebraska. His first musical influence was his father Otis, a well-known drummer on the city's music scene. He passed the music bug on to Calvin, who picked up the guitar early. Keys has toured and performed with many of the most notable names in jazz and soul music including the Ray Charles Band, Ahmad Jamal's band, John Handy and many more. Now, he has returned to Wide Hive with his first solo album in seven years. With nine new compositions, Keys adeptly navigates straight ahead Jazz, to Funk and Blues, always maintaining the quintessential Keys feel, for which he is known and respected. Joining Keys on ELECTRIC KEYS are Wide Hive PlayersBassist and Pianist Matt Montgomery (also on Larry Coryell - The Lift), Trombonist Mike Rinta, Saxophonist Doug Rowan and Drummer Josh Jones. Stand out tracks include "Electric Keys, " "You Know The Game, " "Rhubarb Jam" and Calvin's acoustic ballad "Touch". write your comments about the article :: © 2013 Jazz News :: home page |
