| Charles Lloyd: Award and European Film Premiere Charles Lloyd has won the Miles Davis Award, the prize given by the Montreal Jazz Festival "to honour a great international jazz musician for the entire body of his or her work and for that musician's influence in regenerating the jazz idiom." The festival's press announcement notes that "Charles Lloyd has been a standard-bearer for a resolutely free and modern music since the '60s, having created and spread the sound with an array of major musicians. The famed composer and multi-instrumentalist (equally brilliant on tenor sax and flute) is at the peak of his musical form. In his first visit to the Montreal Festival since 2005, he'll share the fruits of his musical explorations in three consecutive concerts." The Charles Lloyd Quartet with Jason Moran, Reuben Rogers and Eric Harland appears at the festival on June 28. Lloyd's Sangam trio with Zakir Hussain and Eric Harland plays on June 29, and on June 30, Lloyd plays duo and trio sets with Jason Moran and Bill Frisell. After Montreal, Lloyd heads to Munich where the new documentary about his life and work, "Arrows Into Infinity" (directed by Dorothy Darr and Jeffery Morse), will receive its European premiere screenings at the Carl-Orff Saal on July 2 and 4, in the context of the Filmfest München. On July 3, the Sangam trio will perform at Munich's Amerika-Haus.
