| The E.J. Strickland Quintet at Bohemian Caverns The E.J. Strickland Quintet will perform at Bohemian Caverns (2001 Eleventh Street N.W.(at corner of U street),Washington, D.C. 20001) June 21st & June 22nd featuring E.J. Strickland - drums, Jaleel Shaw - alto sax, Tivon Scott Pennicott - tenor & soprano saxes, Luis Perdomo - piano, Linda Oh - bass. Drummer, composer, and bandleader E.J. Strickland is most noted for his work with The Ravi Coltrane Quartet, The Marcus Strickland Quartet & Trio, & The Russell Malone Quartet. He currently leads his own bands The E.J. Strickland Quintet & The E.J. Strickland Project. His playing has been described as emitting "fields of cumulative energy, clouds of feather-touch and heavy-handed syncopations, latent with power like an oncoming storm" (Thomas Conrad, Downbeat Magazine). He attended highschool at New World School of the Arts in Miami, Florida and then The New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music for his college years. He found great influences in drummers like Elvin Jones, "Philly" Joe Jones, Roy Haynes, Tony Williams, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Brian Blade, and many, many others.
