| 39th Annual Jazz Record Collectors Bash 39th Annual Jazz Record Collectors Bash - June 21-22, 2013 - Hilton Woodbridge Iselin, NJ. Friday, June 21st 7PM BOSWELL SISTERS SPECIAL PRESENTATION This year a special presentation will be made at 7 PM, just before Dave Weiner's film show on Friday, June 21. Vet Boswell's granddaughter, Kyla Titus, and David W. McCain will give a short talk on current Boswell Sisters recognition projects including the Boswell Sisters book, the documentary being produced for PBS American Masters, and the major exhibition at the Historic New Orleans Collection. The Boswell family collection that Kyla inherited contains a huge amount of one-of-a-kind personal mementos covering the family history and career of the Boswell Sisters. Kyla also possesses home movie footage and audio recordings, some of which do not exist elsewhere. The presentation will include short film and audio clips. Kyla and David will also host a vendor table all day Friday which will include items for sale such as publicity photos, LPs, 78s, celebrity autographed photos, sheet music, and more, all from the Boswell Sisters family collection. It looks like the time has finally come for the Boswell Sisters to receive the recognition they so richly deserve—and Bash attendees will be among the first to hear about it! Friday, 8:00 PM: RARE JAZZ FILMS Jazz collector and film historian David Weiner will present two hours of rare film and TV clips, showcasing jazz and pop artists of the 1920s through the 1960s. Among the featured performers will be hot soloists George Lewis, Louis Armstrong, Adrian Rollini, Dizzy Gillespie, Earl Hines, Slim Gaillard, Lionel Hampton, Muggsy Spanier, Max Roach, Teddy Wilson, Benny Goodman, Bud Freeman, Gerry Mulligan and Buddy Rich; the big bands of Bob Crosby, Woody Herman and Roy Fox; and vocalists Connee Boswell, Ruth Etting, Ethel Waters, Velma Middleton, Judy Canova and Bing Crosby with the Rhythm Boys. Plus vintage cartoons, comedy and TV commercials with Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman. Also, after the films, rare record playoffs / challenges hosted by Henry Schmidt. Saturday: RARE JAZZ FILMS Ron Hutchinson co-founder of The Vitaphone Project, will present a largely previously unseen collection of early sound jazz and vaudeville short subjects.
