| Aaron Myers Embarks On A Journey Of A Lifetime It's been a long time coming and in the making but the amazing talent of Aaron Myers is finally arriving at the forefront of the jazz music scene. This young talented entertainer has come a long way since he served as the Brigade Musician and Choir Director after joining the United States Military in 2001. And later after leaving the military, enrolling in Navarro College, where he majored in theatre and business, he became the musical director with the College Gospel Choir. All this, while also running for the Mayor's office of Corsicana, Texas. In 2005, Aaron relocated to Los Angeles, CA where he co-hosted Comedy Night at Miyagee's on Sunset with Josh Nassar, and was Music Director for the Youth Department at West Angeles Church of God in Christ. During this time, he composed the soundtrack and was Music Supervisor for "A Song and a Prayer". His accomplishments are many and continue to expand enormously as the years go by. Now in 2013, Aaron's music career has reached the pinnacle where he is ready to embark on a brand new solo project; one that he is extremely proud of and one that will most assuredly leave the jazz and neo-soul music community in awe. Aaron is now in the studio finishing up the final tracks, mixing, and mastering on his soon to be released debut full length album "Leo Rising". The new record will consist of his brilliant original works, combined with his own unique arrangement of classic jazz songs. When recently interviewed, Aaron was asked to comment about his feelings on the new project, and what emotions he was experiencing before and during the recording of the CD. "I was born in Dallas but was raised in a very small community where I never believed that I would reach my dreams in music, and actually experience success", Stated Aaron. "I never believed those dreams could come true, but I woke up one day after my Dad passed away and decided that life was too short, and I needed to make this move. The move was falling in love with ME, and allowing the love to spread". The debut release, "Leo Rising", recorded at Avatar Studios (Formerly The Power Station), "deals with the personal struggles of how to love myself and others", states Myers. "It also deals with how to cope with outside circumstances; which oftentimes influence how you love yourself and others". Aaron's musical influences vary, ranging from old to newer genres. He loves ragtime and the early jazz composers such as James P Johnson and Eubie Blake. When it comes to Gospel, it's Thomas A. Dorsey, Caravans, Mattie Moss Clark, James Cleveland, and Ricky Dillard. His 60's era influences includes such greats as Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr., Mel Torme, Aretha Franklin, Smokey Robinson, and Sam Cooke. When it comes to Soul & R&B, Stevie Wonder is a huge favorite. Regarding his songwriting process and inspiration, Aaron indicated, "I am easily inspired and would be writing at almost every moment of every day if I could. But, the process does take a lot of discipline because I'm easily distracted by other tunes that may creep into my head". Aaron Myers is currently the resident artist at the "Black Fox Lounge" in Washington DC, on the first and third Fridays of each month. Look for Aaron on NBC channel 4 in DC, where he will be the featured accompanist for the show, "Be a Voice VIP" contest'. The show airs on June 1st. On June 6th at 9:00PM he will introduce his new music, sound, and style to a new audience at DC's "Busboys & Poets". In Aaron's ongoing efforts to support worthwhile causes, he will perform at the "Swiss Embassy" on June 27th in an appearance that benefits "Fair Girls" to raise awareness for the plight of female trafficking. Live performance and crowd interaction is one of Myer's biggest strong points. When asked what gets him on stage and inspires his performances and shows, he replied with no hesitation. "The fact that when I land on stage, someone who was about to abandon hope, would see what I was doing, and be inspired to keep their heads up". On music related success, Myers states; "When someone thinks for a certain period of time; and your music starts to play". Aaron Myers debut record, "Leo Rising" is earmarked to hit the streets on June 7th of this year. A celebration and CD release party will be held at the Black Fox Lounge on the 7th at 8:00PM. Aaron will also be featured in the June issue of the online magazine The Digital Conglomerate. A Tour in support of the new project is in the planning stages. write your comments about the article :: © 2013 Jazz News :: home page |
