| Malayika-Music Gets World-Wide Distribution February 19. Release Planned for Mayembé Malayika's New Album Pan-African Soul Malayika-Music, noted as the home label of emerging worldbeat poetress Mayembé Malayika, signed a world-wide distribution agreement with Megawave, label president John Palmer announced today. Born of German and Congolese parents, Mayembé Malayika started singing at age 17 and spent intensive years getting in touch with her roots and identity through African dance, history, arts, and the whole range of Pan-African music. Most significant was the support and advice of the African Reggae star Tiken Jah Fakoly whom she met 2006 in Switzerland at the Afropfingsten Festival. He gave her the opportunity to develop as an artist and to find her style. The result is her debut album "Pan-African Soul" with elements of Afrobeat and Afropop. Recently opening for Amadou & Mariam in Europe, Mayembé Malayika is now known for modern World Music with a message. The album will be marketed by Born Free Records Street Team. Lansing, Michigan-based MEGAWAVE ("Small label—Big sound"), celebrating its 40th year, specializes in jazz, world, reggae, gospel, and piano blues music. It is distributed in North America by MVD Entertainment Group, in Europe by Membran Media GmbH, in Japan by BounDEE, and digitally worldwide by Independent Online Distribution Alliance (IODA). write your comments about the article :: © 2013 Jazz News :: home page |
