| The 3rd Edition of "Simply The Blues" is back Mumbaiites definitely love their Blues and their favourite Blues concert series "Simply The Blues" is back with the 3rd Edition of its concert series, to be held on 27th December at St. Andrews Auditorium, Bandra. Coming all the way from Shillong is the country's best Blues band, Soulmate. Joining them on stage are the Pune based, Blues Jazz-World Groove band, Smokestack, dishing out their signature style and shades of Blues. Conceptualized and produced by STARKONNECT EVENTS & PROMOTIONS, this on-ground event is planned as a four part concert series, with one event every month. Blues Music festivals in India, are few and far between and this event will promote Blues music not just in Mumbai, but expand its reach across India. SIMPLY THE BLUES was created to provide a credible and consistent platform to Indian Blues artists from across the country. Commenting on the latest concert series, Ms. Joyce Arora, Co-Founder, StarKonnect, said, "We have crossed the half way mark, and are quite excited at the response we have got so far. Looking forward we know that the only way to promote the beautiful genre of Blues music, is by spreading awareness of the form, as well as promoting the Indian musicians who are in the forefront of it, the upcoming talent that we have. Our premise that providing a platform to young talent will be the driving force for taking the Blues to the youth, has been proven right, as at our 2 events we have had an equal mix of young and mature audience." Rudy Wallang and Tipriti (Tips) Kharbangar of Soulmate have been entertaining Blues fans all over the country as well as the world for over a decade, performing at sold-out concerts in the US, France, Germany, Sweden, Singapore and other countries. Their influences range from Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Etta James, Susan Tedeschi, Janis Joplin, amongst others. When often asked by people, why they chose the Blues…their answer has been…"we didn't choose the Blues…the Blues chose us"! A high-voltage performance by them is the order of the day. NOT TO MISS - the pretty butterflies on Tips's microphone. Named after the legendary song by Howling Wolf, Smokestack, are not just content with purist, acoustic Blues, but the band broadened their approach including a multitude of folk and roots music as well as rhythmic influences from around the world. With a repertoire of over 50 original compositions, Smokestack has fun on stage doing what a Blues band does best - making its audience swing to the spell of the Blues. Expect renditions from John Lee Hooker to Ali Farka Toure, Muddy Waters to Led Zeppelin, Pink Andersen to Pink Floyd, the Saturday night sin in the jukehouse to the Sunday morning salvation at the church. Festival Director, Luke Kenny, says, "For me the most fulfilling thing is to see the bands walk on to stage and start playing their music to an audience that they would normally not have any access to. The four bands that have played so far are all blues bands but yet each of their musicality is so different. And the best thing is that its all so entertaining and that in the end is what I want to be able to take away from the evening. Good music and good fun."
