Jazz & Blues Return To Christchurch

The Cavell Leitch New Zealand Jazz & Blues Festival returns to Christchurch in April 3 - 7, 2013 featuring international and New Zealand musicians along with a great line up of local talent.

The only major autumn festival in the Canterbury calendar, it continues to present stellar performances in venues across the city. The Press Jazz in the Dome will be presented in the Events Village in Hagley Park .

In their first performance in the South Island following sold out shows in Auckland last year, UK trio Kitty, Daisy and Lewis play R & B, jump blues, country and western and rock 'n roll.

Nathan Haines, on a return trip home from London, plays saxophone supreme, while three of New Zealand's finest contemporary musicians Warren Maxwell, Mark Vanilau and Louis Baker join forces to collaborate in vocal harmony reminiscent of Crosby, Stills and Nash.

Women in Jazz will be represented by Irish legend Mary Coughlan along with local artists Jennine Bailey and Naomi Ferguson in a magical evening singing the songs of Billie Holiday, Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald.

"I'm thrilled we can present such a strong vocal programme in both classical and contemporary jazz, " says Jodi Wright, festival director, .

"Having younger artists of such a high standard shows the strong following there is for this musical genre."

American guitarist, expressive singer, and accomplished songwriter, nine-time Grammy winner Bonnie Raitt will headline the festival which kicks off the week after Easter.

The full programme will be released on 8 February.
