| Austin's Bill Carter Blows Past City Limits With Debut Album, 1/15 Bill Carter is a familiar name in the music industry, as the songwriter behind countless hits - including Stevie Ray Vaughan's only #1 single "Crossfire" - and as a former member of the Hollywood band 'P' with Johnny Depp. But despite having written songs for artists like Robert Palmer and Waylon Jennings that have "made an impact not just locally, but on a national level" (ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons), Carter is somewhat under recognized outside his hometown of Austin, TX. Now, for the first-time, Carter is taking his music outside the city limits with his debut album, 'Unknown' (1.15, Unison Music Group). 'Unknown' pairs rock and blues arrangements with a country sensibility and features Carter on ten instruments, including bongos, bass, and electric guitar. His "sublime, haunting" (Johnny Depp) first single "Anything Made of Paper" will be featured in Amy Berg (Director) and Peter Jackson's (Producer) 'West of Memphis, ' a documentary examining the infamous case of Damien Echols and the West Memphis Three (out December 25). Carter and wife/songwriting partner Ruth Ellsworth - who together will be inducted into the Texas Music Hall of Fame in March - wrote the song as a gift for Echols, who could only receive objects "made of paper" while on death row. "Anything Made of Paper" is on the shortlist for a best "Original Song" nomination at this year's Academy Awards. write your comments about the article :: © 2012 Jazz News :: home page |
