Bob Riesman And Billy Boy Arnold Celebrate Legacy Of Big Bill Broonzy At Club Passim

Bob Riesman, author of the "illuminating" (NY Times) biography 'I Feel So Good: The Life and Times of Big Bill Broonzy' (University of Chicago Press), and blues harp master Billy Boy Arnold, who recently released 'Billy Boy Arnold Sings Big Bill Broonzy', come togeth¬er for a night of words and music at Club Passim on January 8.

The event celebrates the life of Big Bill Broonzy, whose playing inspired Eric Clapton ("he became like a role model for me"), Pete Townshend ("he was my first blues crush"), and Ray Davies ("Without this man, I don't think I would have done what I did"), each of whom Riesman interviewed for the book.

Taught harmonica by Sonny Boy Williamson at age 12, Billy Boy Arnold will make his first Boston-area appearance since releasing his Broonzy tribute album. In addition to performing Broonzy's songs, Arnold will share his first-hand recollections of Big Bill and the Chicago blues world of the 1940s and 1950s. Eric Noden, producer and guitarist for the 'Billy Boy Arnold Sings Big Bill Broonzy' CD, will accompany Arnold on guitar.

Winner of the Blues Foundation's 2013 Keeping the Blues Alive Award for Literature, Riesman's "definitive" (Boston Globe) biography of Broonzy received wide recognition with its initial hardback release. In a five-star review, MOJO called 'I Feel So Good' "one of the great blues biographies, " and The New York Times, NPR, The Wall Street Journal, and many others, praised the book for its extensive research and compelling insights into the life of Big Bill Broonzy.
