Renowned Fado, African Blues and Salsa at 2013 Savannah Music Festival

Fado star Ana Moura (Portugal) will headline the world music concerts on a bill with the premiere of Robert Sadin's "Messina: Songs of the Night" featuring clarinetist Patrick Messina. Other world music concerts include African Blues & The Creole-Cajun Crossroads which brings together African blues guitarist Boubacar Traoré (Mali) on a bill with American multi-instrumentalists Cedric Watson and Dirk Powell; and the popular salsa band Spanish Harlem Orchestrafrom New York.

Savannah Music Festival (SMF) is a city-wide musical arts event showcasing renowned performers in jazz, classical, Americana and world music against the backdrop of one of the United States of America's most enchanting historic districts. The festival runs from March 21 to April 6.

"At SMF, we live for the exchange between artists and audiences that comes whether it's a 400-year old masterpiece or the premiere of a commissioned work, " says SMF Executive & Artistic Director Rob Gibson.

he Savannah Music Festival (SMF) was among two organizations and ten individuals that received the 2012 award out of nearly 100 nominations statewide. The awards were created "to recognize deserving individuals and organizations for significant contributions to Georgia's cultural vitality." Visit Savannah nominated SMF, and Georgia Council for the Arts, the Georgia Humanities Council and the Georgia Film and Music & Digital Entertainment Office joined in presenting the awards.
From the Governor's Office: "Georgia's artistic and cultural enterprise facilitates our competitiveness in the global market and attracts new commerce, " said Deal. "These individuals and organizations are building a distinct state identity while also helping make Georgia the No. 1 place to do business nationwide." These recipients represent a diverse and prestigious group of accomplished individuals and organizations that have laid the groundwork for Georgia's growing creative industry through innovative programs, community collaboration and long-term financial commitment.
