| 18th Annual Brentwood Autum Art Show - Sunday, October 28 This year's Brentwood Autum Art Show brings the arts to the community with an emphasis in "Handmade in America, " and packs a triple-treat of family fun presenting three events simultaneously: the 18th annual "Brentwood Autumn Art Show, " the 15th West LA Chamber of Commerce "Health Fair" offers exhibits, wellness products and health screenings, and Kids Are 1st "Family Safety Festival, " provides child fingerprinting, ID kits, car seat safety, and child-friendly activities. The one-day show, set for Sunday, October 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., takes place along the eastbound lanes of San Vicente Boulevard, beginning at Saltair and running east to Barrington, in downtown Brentwood (CA). Admission to the event is free and plenty of metered parking is available along San Vicente Boulevard, at pay lot parking at the VA on Gorham, as well as several public lots near the show. The BRENTWOOD AUTUMN ART SHOW presents a juried selection of media and styles, from whimsical to contemporary intermixed with traditional art festival favorites fine art and photography, clothing and accessories, jewelry, sculptures, stained glass, hand-blown glass, porcelain and ceramics, paper and textile art, potpourri, soaps, candles, flowers bonsai trees, children's toys, furniture, and more. Additional activities include live musical entertainment (EdWing Trio, Rhubarb Meringue Pie, and the JazzZone Trio with drummer Stephen Foster, pianist Mikal R. Majeed, saxophonist/vocalist Reggie Alexander), a children's entertainment area and an international food court. "People can still experience the value of handmade items through the work of weavers, woodworkers, potters, metalsmiths, and every other craft that exists, at this year's show" Leier explained, "Despite the overwhelming wave of cheap mass produced products that are laid at our feet each day, there are people who continue to create functional objects that are beautiful to look at and a pleasure to use. Their work is appreciated by people that make room in their lives for high touch items because of the thoughtfulness that goes into their creation. Today's craftspeople though, have the unique disadvantage of having to rationalize the work they do in the face of the inexpensive, easily accessible, pervasive products that fill big box stores from coast-to-coast." Sure, everyone is more cautious with how they spend their money these days, but art lovers buy art and one-of-a-kind collectibles no matter what the economy dictates.
