L. Umar Conry & Johnny Turco Present a Tribute to Teddy Pendergrass

On Saturday, September 15, 2012, vocalist L. Umar Conry and guitarist Johnny T. (Turco) will be presenting a tribute to the late Teddy Pendergrass in a dynamic performance of the artist's greatest hits at New York's renowned Sugar Bar.

Combining the rich and soulful voice of Conry and the tasteful and accomplished guitar of Johnny T. with their band of seasoned pros, this is sure to be a night of unforgettably moving and entertaining R&B. Regularly, as part of the Back Alley Players, Conry and Turco perform every Tuesday night at 8:00 PM at Sugar Bar's NYC weekly Tuesday night "Nuttin' But the Blues" series featuring multiple guest artists, and now with this special collaboration, they will be hitting the stage at Sugar Bar with their amazing Teddy Pendergrass tribute.

The band accompanying Conry and Turco at this special Pendergrass tribute at Sugar Bar is made up of experienced New York City music pros from a variety of musical backgrounds from Jazz and Funk, to Hip-Hop and R&B, including Tony Stevenson on Bass.

Vocalist L. Umar Conry, has a velvety baritone voice that has been compared to Barry White. But Umar is uniquely his own stylist with emotionally soulful renditions that come straight from the heart. He has opened for such musical luminaries as Isaac Hayes and Ray, Goodman & Brown and performed on commercial jingles and at various clubs in the NYC area, including with the Back Alley Players as well as on their hit CD Beyond the Blues, and with Johnny T. on music for the WWF's feature film Inside Out.

Songwriter/Producer/Guitarist Johnny T's musical journey began at the age of six when he began playing guitar and mandolin while growing up in Queens. He later studied guitar with world famous jazz guitarist Carmen Mastren. Throughout his career he has played countless live and studio gigs, including recording commercial jingles for Kodak and McDonalds. As a founding member of the Back Alley Players, Turco has most recently showcased his writing/composing/producing talents on their popular CD, Beyond the Blues, penning all but one of the tracks as well as providing funky rhythms and sparkling solos on guitar and mandolin. Also, he wrote and performed along with Conry on music for the WWF's feature film Inside Out.

Don't miss this rare opportunity to catch a great live performance of a host of Teddy Pendergrass' greatest songs performed by the great L. Umar Conry and Johnny Turco along with some of the best musical talents in New York.
