| WEMU's Linda Yohn wins top jazz radio award for 4th straight year Linda Yohn, music director and on-air host at WEMU, was named Jazz Programmer of the Year in a major market for the fourth straight year Thursday at the JazzWeek Summit's annual awards dinner in Detroit. The summit precedes the Detroit Jazz Festival, in downtown Detroit over Labor Day weekend. JazzWeek, celebrating its 10th anniversary in this year, is the weekly online publication dedicated to jazz and jazz radio programming. Nominees are selected by JazzWeek subscribers, including: jazz radio programmers, jazz record company executives and independent jazz radio record promoters. "Once again, Linda's passion for the music and careful crafting of our sound has resulted in well-deserved national recognition, ' said WEMU Program Director Clark Smith in a press release. "Linda Yohn is a tireless advocate for jazz and for WEMU, " said General Manager Molly Motherwell in the press release. "To be recognized for this service by her peers in the industry - for four years in a row - is an incredible honor and richly deserved. Linda has put together a staff and musical sound that continues to make a huge impact not only here in Washtenaw County, but across the country. We're very proud of her." WEMU (89.1-FM) is the public-radio station at Eastern Michigan University, following a format of NPR news and talk programs alongside jazz and blues music. In addition to serving as WEMU's music director, Yohn also hosts "89.1 Jazz with Linda Yohn, " which airs on WEMU from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
