| Jazz at the Maverick Presents A Weekend In Paris Maverick Concerts, the oldest continuous summer chamber music festival in America, announces "Jazz at the Maverick, " four Saturday evening concerts of contemporary jazz, during its 97th season of Music in the Woods. August 18/19: A Weekend In Paris: Classical and Jazz with Ébène Quartet Saturday | August 18 | 6:30 pm JAZZ AT THE MAVERICK The Ébène Quartet An Evening of Jazz, celebrating their recent CD, FICTION Sunday | August 19 | 4 pm The Ébène Quartet Mozart: Divertimento in F Major, K.138 Fauré: String Quartet in E Minor, Op. 121 Tchaikovsky: String Quartet No. 1 in D Major, Op. 11 The Ébène Quartet The versatile and genre-bending Ébène Quartet will be featured on "A Weekend in Paris, " with a jazz concert at 6:30 pm on Saturday, Aug. 18, and a concert of classical string quartet repertoire on Sunday, Aug. 19, at 4:00 pm. Ébène (pronounced ay-ben) is the French word for ebony, and the quartet plays contemporary jazz that has roots in the Parisian Hot Club sound of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli. The quartet's members are conservatory-trained string players, but the cellist plays piano in a jazz quartet, the second violinist is a drummer, and the violist also plays guitar. From "promising young ensemble, " the Quatuor Ébène has grown to become one of the foremost quartets on the international scene. Recently it was selected to take part in the BBC's "New Generation Artists" program, and it has been heard throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States.
