Jazz evening at Maeght Foundation

On 12 August 2012, the Maeght Foundation, located in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, will be offering a Jazz musical evening with the Laurent Mignard Duke Orchestra.

Since its beginnings, the Maeght Foundation has been displaying shows, poetry, literature, architecture, paintings, and sculptures. Having welcomed numerous important artists such as Merce Cunningham, Mstislav Rostropovitch, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Emmanuel Krivine, and Michel Portal, the foundation wishes to re-establish musical creation this year. An archives film will be screened on the occasion of the concert by the Laurent Mignard Duke Orchestra Quintet displaying the Duke's repertoire, "a devilishly lively patrimony as was Miró's", as stated by Olivier Kaeppelin, director of the foundation, in the event's press release.

Laurent Mignard Duke Orchestra was set up in 2003. It is known by specialists as the best Ellingtonian active band to serve and (re)create Duke Ellington's work. By mixing the blues spirit with the most refined orchestral invention, Laurent Mignard Duke Orchestra defends the idea of an art for all. In compliance with the foundation's spirit, it will tackle every audience in the Giacometti sphere by offering a journey into the heart of Duke Ellington's repertoire.
