Above the Clouds to Debut at Chicago's Andy's Jazz Club

Above the Clouds, a new CD by The Terry Bartolotta Group, will debut at Chicago's renowned Andy's Jazz Club and Restaurant located at 11 E. Hubbard Street on Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28.

Above the Clouds is a collection of original songs drawn from the jazz tradition and played with a contemporary interpretation and arrangements by Terry Bartolotta, the group's leader. Above the Clouds was recorded at O'Callaghan Studios in Lisle, Illinois. From Latin jazz to ballads and up-tempo burners, the new CD gives the listener a variety of jazz styles to absorb and enjoy.

His Chicago-area roots and world-class instruction have shaped his musical development. Bartolotta earned a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Performance from Northern Illinois University's highly regarded music school where he studied for four years under internationally acclaimed guitarist Fareed Haque. Bartolotta then earned a Master of Arts in Jazz Composition at the DePaul School of Music led by well-known Chicago jazz composer and performer Bob Lark.

"I found inspiration from the joy of playing with this band and from those that are close to me in my life. I wanted to honor and explore the sounds of jazz artists like John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Brad Mehldau, and Peter Bernstein, " Bartolotta said. "At the same time I hoped to express my own voice through the improvisations and the songs themselves."

With Bartolotta on guitar, The Terry Bartolotta Group is comprised of Nick Sednew on trumpet, Alex Beltran on tenor sax, Nathan Kawaller on bass, and Lucas Gillan on drums. They represent a combined fifty years of musical training and professional performance experience. Individually and collectively, Bartolotta and company perform at venues that include: The Jazz Showcase, The Green Mill, Pete Miller's Steakhouse, The Whistler, Jerry's, O'Brien's, Morseland, Andy's, The Salt Creek Wine Bar, Park 52, and countless others.

In addition to performing with The Terry Bartolotta Group founded in 2011 and other bands, Bartolotta teaches at the College of Lake County, Harold Washington College, local music schools and provides private lessons.

Bartolotta resides in Chicago's Ravenswood neighborhood.
