| Project Trio Teams Up with Local Charities for Bay View Music Festival Season The Bay View Music Festival is opening its 2012 pops season at 8 PM on Saturday, June 23 at the newly refurbished Hall Auditorium, 1725 Encampment Avenue, Petoskey, with a concert by the high energy chamber ensemble, Project Trio with beatboxing flutist, Greg Pattillo, cellist Eric Stephenson and Downbeat Magazine's Jazz Soloist of the Year, bassist, Peter Seymour. Proceeds from the concert will benefit a variety of local charities in the Bay View region, continuing the Festival's tradition which began three years ago. The Trio is presenting a week long improvisation/chamber music camp the week of June 17, and the public is invited to a public jam/concert with the members of PROJECT Trio and the camp participants on Thursday, June 21 at 8 PM. The Trio first performed at the Bay View Music Festival as a Crouse Visiting Artist several years ago when the Festival launched its initiative to bring emerging crossover ensembles to northwestern Michigan in an effort to bridge the gap between classical, jazz, and popular audiences. Since then the festival has hosted Time for Three, Rhythmic Circus, and presents two acts this summer, Project Trio and the Harlem Quartet. PROJECT Trio is taking chamber music to a whole new level, pushing the boundaries of classical music with a high octane mix of jazz, hip-hop, and rock. The three musicians, who met as students at the Cleveland Institute of Music, write or arrange all of their own music, including their own interpretations of music from Bach to Guns 'n' Roses. Their YouTube videos have amassed a phenomenal 71 million viewings, making them one of the most viewed chamber music ensembles on the Internet. The trio performs to enthusiastic audiences of all ages in concert halls, clubs, and classrooms around the world. Acclaim for the Trio and its members runs the gamut from Downbeat Magazine, which exclaims PROJECT Trio is "packed with musicianship, joy, and surprise" to the New York Times, which calls beat-boxing flutist Greg Pattillo "the best in the world at what he does." Fellow classical musicians join in the raves saying "PROJECT Trio really has it all. They combine the fire and refinement of the finest classical chamber ensembles with the stage presences and energy of rock stars." Random Roads Collection, the Trio's latest CD debuted last month at No. 2 and 15 on Billboard's Canadian and US classical music charts and, in a rare feat, simultaneously debuted at No. 17 on the trade magazine's jazz charts. The catalogue-spanning disc is PROJECT Trio's first recording for Tummy Touch Records. The disc includes tracks from each of the Trio's earlier recordings: Winter in June, Brooklyn and Project Trio on the Trio's own record label, Harmonyville Records, along with two previously unreleased tracks. A fourth disc on the Harmonyville label is scheduled for the fall. Each of PROJECT Trio's recordings soared to the top of the iTunes charts upon their release.
