Jazz guitarist Lou Volpe will perform on Tuesday, July 17 at the John Birks Gillespie Theatre, New York Baha'i Center. Known for his captivating jazz guitar sound of rhythmic and dynamic grooves, Lou Volpe has been a standard on the New York music scene for over two decades. Although the technically unbelievable feats he accomplishes on guitar may be the first things to catch one's attention, his true merit lies in the fire and deep soul with which he performs them.

Volpe is one of the most respected and admired artists having performance and recording credits with Peggy Lee, Chaka Khan, Bo Diddley, David "Fathead" Newman, Chet Baker, Liza Minnelli, Lionel Hampton, Roberta Flack, Phoebe Snow, The Manhattan Transfer, Herbie Hancock and numerous others. He has toured the US, Europe, Africa and Japan either solo or with his group.

From his early beginnings as the guitarist for the Dick Cavett Show, "Sugar Babies" on Broadway and various TV and radio commercials, his resume evolved to include touring stints, music composition and arranging. He has toured with Bette Midler and Judy Collins. He co-produced, composed, arranged and toured extensively with the legendary Herbie Mann, as well as performing at his memorial and tribute at the Blue Note. He has played at Lincoln Center with Herbie Hancock and the late John Lucien.

Mr. Volpe has to his credit three CD recordings: Can You Hear That? songs written by him except his exquisite interpretation of "You Send Me", Lou Volpe Undercovers, featuring choice standard and popular numbers done with his unique captivating style and his latest Hear and Now with personal selections along with his trio, featuring Onaje Allan Gumbs on piano, Bob Cranshaw on bass and Buddy Williams on drums.

2012 Finds him scheduled to perform concerts in the US as well as Canada at the Salon de la Guitar de Montreal in conjunction with the Montreal Jazz Festival. He is currently working on his fourth CD of Sinatra and other standards.
