| Ivan Neville & Dumpstaphunk at The Ridgefield Playhouse Ivan is the son of Aaron Neville and nephew to members of The Neville Brothers. There's music in their blood. Ivan Neville has released four solo albums and had a Top 40 Billboard hit with "Not Just Another Girl" from his first album If My Ancestors Could See Me Now. He formed Dumpstaphunk in 2003 on a whim, to fill a solo slot at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Ivan tastefully selected the unique double-bass attack of both Nick Daniels and Tony Hall on bass, enlisted his own bloodlines for the scorching guitar rhythms of cousin Ian Neville and added the heavy-hitting female protégé Nikki Glaspie on drums. Ivan Neville & Dumpstaphunk will bring their hybrid New Orleans' jazz to The Ridgefield Playhouse on Thursday, May 31, at 8 p.m. Special guest is The Bobby Paltauf Experience featuring a 12-year old guitarist who plays blues and rock 'n' roll and is celebrating the release of his first mini CD, Let's Go For a Ride, which he recorded in Richie Cannata's (sax player for Billy Joel) studio. Young Bobby has already played with music legends Buddy Guy, Lou Pallo from the Les Paul trio, Rusty Les Paul and Roxy Perry. Luc's Café (Big Shop Lane, Ridgefield) is offering a free glass of wine with dinner the night of the show when tickets/stubs are shown. This event is part of the Guinness Black Lager Rock Series. Media sponsor is Radio Woodstock 100.1WDST. Ivan Neville and Dumpstaphunk were nominated for Best Funk Band at the 2012 Big Easy Music Awards and are now widely considered one of New Orleans' most prestigious modern funk ensembles. They are setting a new standard for an entire genre. In 2005 when the levees failed in New Orleans, Ivan Neville joined The New Orleans Social Club and recorded the benefit album Sing Me Back Home. His searing version of John Fogerty's "Fortunate Son" was critically acclaimed. "Catharsis never sounded cooler, " raved Entertainment Weekly. The Ridgefield Playhouse is a not-for-profit performing arts center located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street, Ridgefield, CT; write your comments about the article :: © 2012 Jazz News :: home page |
