| Lou Volpe Trio at Showman's Jazz Club Lou Volpe Trio will perform on Thursday, May 10th at Showman's Jazz Club. This show is part of the Harlem Jazz Shrines Festival presented by The Apollo Theater, Harlem Stage and Jazzmobile, Inc., and Columbia University. Lou Volpe, known for his captivating jazz guitar style of rhythmic, sensual and dynamic grooves has been a standard on the New York music scene for more than two decades. Although the technically unbelievable feats Lou accomplishes on guitar may be the first things to catch one's attention, his true merit lies in the fire and deep soul with which he performs them. Volpe is one of the most respected and admired artists having performance and recording credits with Peggy Lee, Chaka Khan, Bo Diddley, David "Fathead" Newman, Chet Baker, Liza Minnelli, Lionel Hampton, Roberta Flack, Phoebe Snow, The Manhattan Transfer, Herbie Hancock and the list goes on. He has toured the US, Europe, Africa and Japan either solo or with his group. From his early beginnings as the guitarist for the Dick Cavett Show, "Sugar Babies" on Broadway and various TV and radio commercials, his resume evolved to include touring stints, music production, composition and arranging. Lou has toured with Bette Midler and Judy Collins. He co-produced, composed, arranged and toured extensively with the legendary Herbie Mann, as well as performing at his memorial and tribute at the Blue Note. He has played at Lincoln Center with Herbie Hancock and the late John Lucien. He has to his credit three CD recordings: "Can You Hear That?" songs written by Volpe except his exquisite interpretation of "You Send Me", "Lou Volpe undercovers", featuring choice standard and popular numbers done with his unique captivating style. His latest "Hear and Now" was release released this past September and contains personal selections resounding in a sensual yet dynamic groove with his trio, featuring Onaje Allen Gumbs on piano, Bob Cranshaw on bass and Buddy Williams on drums. "Lou Volpe's guitar stylings evoke memories of the Golden Age of American Pop Music and remind us why it was a Golden Age."
