Big band jazz beats time to the rhythm of the Brazilian carnival when the thrilling SpokFrevo Orquestra takes the stage. Their sound draws inspiration from frevo, a vibrant music of elaborate arrangements and deep roots originating from Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. SpokFrevo Orquestra pushes musical boundaries by texturing frevo with complex jazz improvisation and vituoso playing, breaking patterns, reinventing tradition — but not subverting it. Fronted by musical director/saxophonist Maestro Spok, this 17-musician outfit — saxophone, trumpet, trombone, rhythm sections, bass, and guitar — is touring the United States for the first time.
