| Pianist Vijay Iyer at Nyack Library Jazz Series! Vijay Iyer - Acclaimed, Innovative Jazz Pianist at Nyack Library Carnegie Room Jazz Series! Vijay Iyer will give his solo piano concert on Friday, March 9, 7:30 pm. One of the most original and commanding pianists and composers to emerge in recent years, Vijay Iyer is the son of Indian immigrants and a largely self-taught musician. His recordings as a leader have elicited raves rarely heard: "one of today's most important pianists… extravagantly gifted… brilliantly eclectic" (The New Yorker) "unfailingly imaginative and significant" (JazzTimes) "an oncoming phenomenon, already up to his fingers in the most advanced music" (Amiri Baraka) His 2010 Grammy-nominated CD "Historicity" was was named #1 Jazz Album of the Year in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Village Voice Jazz Critics Poll, and the Downbeat International Critics Poll.
