| Top twin tenor sax led jazz quintet for Lincoln There is something about two tenor saxophones that seems to make sparks, and sparks will certainly fly on stage at the Lincoln Drill Hall on Saturday 10th March when two protagonists of the jazz tenor saxophone - Eric Alexander and Dave O'Higgins - renew their partnership with some roaring 2-tenor blowing in the time honoured tradition. When he emerged, in the early 1990s, after being runner-up to Joshua Redman in the Thelonius Monk International Saxophone Competition, Eric Alexander was hailed as the new sax star to watch with his big, bluesy, swinging tenor sound. His style perfectly compliments Dave's soulfully rough-edged playing, making these two bop experts take on a repertoire of standards and originals. Danish drummer Kristian Leth is the man responsible for bringing the pairing together and he leads a top quality rhythm section comprising Mark McCormack, piano and Arnie Somogvi double bass, musicians who are band leaders in their own right. Tickets £14 (£12) Students £7 are available from the Box Office: 01522 873894 or Book Online: www.lincolndrillhall.com or at the door. write your comments about the article :: © 2012 Jazz News :: home page |
